Have Kids Who Love Golf? Check out Innisbrook's Free Play

By: Tim McDonald

Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club has always been one of my favorite golf resorts, for a variety of reasons. The main reason, of course, is the golf. The resort has four courses, including the Copperhead, which some of the pros claim is the best on the PGA Tour, and the Island, a beautiful course that meanders through wetlands and forest.

Throw in the North and South courses and you can stay for a long time here without getting bored.

Innisbrook is making a pitch to families this spring, and that can mean some huge savings for families with kids under 12 interested in golf.

The resort is offering a "free play family plan," which combines lodging with a bunch of free stuff and discounts.

Basically, it works like this: Kids stay, eat and play golf free. The kids get free breakfast and free green fees with a paid adult, one adult per child. That literally means hundreds of dollars in savings, even with short stays. Pretty good deal for golfing families.

Innisbrook also isn't a bad place for adults to either learn the game or bone up; its golf academy is ranked in the top 25 of the country by Golf Magazine.

The resort has several more traditional golf packages as well. My favorite is the "Four tee time" in honor of the resort's 40th birthday. You get four nights lodging and four rounds of golf on all four courses, plus four sleeves of golf balls, a $40 retail credit, a one-hour daily golf clinic, free breakfast and unlimited use of the practice facilities.

The free play family plan is good through April. Call 800-492-6899 for more information or to book a reservation.
