Congratulations and welcome to all you Volunteers, Razorbacks, Wildcats, Gamecocks, Tar Heels and even Gators who will soon be playing Northwest Florida golf courses.

Vision Airlines is starting low-cost service – in big jets from smaller Southeast cities in Tennessee, the Carolinas, Arkansas, Kentucky and even parts of Florida - into Northwest Florida. That means those of you who have been driving here for years can now fly, if you choose.

It also means quite a few newbies to the area. Well now, just let your ol' Uncle Tim here give you a little golf primer on the Emerald Coast.

First of all, you have a lot to choose from. From big resorts to standalone tracks, you will find a course to suit your wants. Sandestin is the biggest resort in the area, a sprawling property with four fine courses, two of which – Burnt Pine and Raven - would compare favorably to any course anywhere.

The Destin area has a wealth of quality golf, from Kelly Plantation, Regatta Bay, Emerald Bay and others to Shalimar Pointe and Indian Bayou in Fort Walton Beach. You also must play Camp Creek, one of the top courses in the Southeast, and stay at the Watercolor Inn.

This is just a little sampler to get you started. You're going to enjoy the main course.
