Ritz-Carlton Dominates Readers Survey of Top Florida Golf Resorts

Florida resort golfers have spoken...at least to Conde Nast magazine. They agree that Ritz-Carlton builds a pretty mean golf resort.

The magazine's survey of top golf resorts in Florida, voted on by resort golfers, placed Ritz-Carlton resorts in three of the top four spots, headed by the venerable Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort of Naples.

The Naples resort has 36 holes of Greg Norman-designed golf. The Tiburon has the excellent Gold and Black courses and they alternate them for resort play. It's also home to the Rick Smith Golf Academy.

The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island was voted runner-up, followed by The Breakers in Palm Beach and the Ritz-Carlton, Orlando, Grande Lakes.

They were trailed by Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, Lake Buena Vista; Ponte Vedra Inn and Club; Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress, Orlando; La Playa Beach and Golf Resort, Naples; JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes and Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village, St. Augustine.

The poll was part of the magazine's "Readers Choice Survey" of the top 80 golf resorts worldwide. Florida, California, Arizona and Hawaii were the only states to have their own divisions.

Do I agree with the poll? Well, I've been to every golf resort on the list and they all deserve the honor. I'll only say that this survey shows the strength of Florida golf resorts, since there are so many others that are deserving.

I would also include great Florida golf resorts like Innisbrook, Doral, Orange County National and PGA National, just to name a few.
