I remember the first time I got mystified at Mystic Dunes in Celebration. It was indeed "mystic," especially around the greens.
The greens are wild, huge and steeply sloped. They gyrate, undulate and gesticulate. They have multiple tiers and weird angles. Even the collection areas around the greens, with their deep swales, can be dizzying. If you haven't played a course like this, you'll be inventing some new shots on your own.
Architect Gary Koch modeled the greens after famed Augusta National. Even when you hit them in regulation, the fun really begins.
The rest of the course is excellent – I love the whiskey barrelled bunkers, the long par-4s and the tough little par-3s -- but it is the greens that will stick with you way after the round is over.
This summer, we have the course to ourselves. Mystic Dunes is offering summer memberships for Florida residents. You pay a $160 enrollment fee and then it's $10 a round. The membership is good for any day of the week. The only catch is the $10 green fee is good only after noon.
You also get discounts in the pro shop, for lessons and from the beverage cart. You get a price break at their restaurant, Kenzie's as well.
