One statistic I always find mildly embarrassing is the one that shows male golfers are enjoying spa treatments more and more these days, almost as much as women.
I know, I know, these are modern times and there's nothing foo-foo about a man going to a spa. Still, you'd never find a man's man like Robert DeNiro going to one, right? Oh, he OWNS a spa, you say?
In any case, there's a good deal going on now for those male golf warriors, and female as well, who like to hit the spa after golf to rejuvenate, renovate and recuperate.
The PGA National Resort and Spa has its "summer escape and play" package that includes all sorts of ways to stay cool during summer golf time.
The package includes all the golf you want at the resort's rightfully famous five golf courses, as well as access for two at the resort's huge European Spa. Included in that is the "Waters of the World."
This is a "collection of outdoor mineral pools from the healing waters of the Earth's most treasured locations," according to the resort, including the Pyrenees Mountains and Dead Sea, whose mineral waters are famed for soothing irritated skin and "anxious minds." Sounds exactly like me after a round.
All kidding aside, this looks like an excellent deal. It offers the unlimited golf, which is a personal requirement of mine for a package to be classified as excellent, as well as free clinics at the David Leadbetter Academy. It's good through Oct. 15 and packages start at $139 per night weekdays and $169 weekends, though resort and cart fees are extra and there is a surcharge for playing the Champions course, site of the Honda Classic.
The packages also include breakfast, range balls and access to "tournament-level practice facilities." That's around $500 in value add-ons.
