Club at Emerald Hills Is a Hard-Rocking Layout

Quick, name the only Indian tribe in the U.S. that never officially surrendered.

If you said Florida's Seminoles, you know your Indians. And if you know the Seminoles, you may have heard about the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood.

The Hard Rock has a loose affiliation with the nearby Club at Emerald Hills, and quite a few guests take a shuttle – whether it's a high-rolling limo or a cab -- to the course. The affiliation is appropriate because Emerald Hills is a hard-rocking resort course. Oh, THERE'S the connection!

First of all, Emerald Hills is more than 7,100 yards from the back tees, with water hazards on 10 holes and a uh-oh slope rating of 147. At times – especially when I'm playing it – the wind that comes ripping off the Atlantic can make a three-club difference. That's right, you're hitting seven-iron from 140 yards.

Don't let this scare you off, though. It does have soft fairway mounding and the women's tees give the fairer sex a decided advantage, which is why the track is popular with women.

The better players like the course as well: Emerald Hills has hosted qualifying events for the Doral and Honda PGA Tour events. Also, Golf Digest has named it to its “Best Places to Play” list.

For me, this is a must-play whenever I'm in the Hollywood/Ft. Lauderdale area. Call 954-962-7888 for more information.
