Going fishing in Florida with a youngster? Keep in mind that a large number of world record catches of species that occur in Florida waters were caught in the rich waters of this great state. We've got the lunkers.
Your junior fishing buddy might very well tie into a fish here that shatters all records, including one of the Dania Beach-based International Game Fish Association (IGFA) Junior Angler World Records. Most recently, Laurel David put her name in the junior angler record book with her 15.42 kg (34 lb) African pompano (Alectis ciliaris), caught near Key Biscayne. Congrats Laurel!
The Junior Angler division includes the "small fry" for anglers up to ten years of age, as well as "junior anglers" from 11 to 16.
Anglers serious about chasing world records should familiarize themselves with the International Gamefish Association's rules, to ensure a catch will qualify.
