Sandestin: Family Fun, Any Season.

By: Jill Martin

Nestled on Florida’s Emerald Coast, Sandestin ranks in my top picks of Perfect Family Vacation Destinations – and it’s not just because of their white-as-snow, sugar-fine beaches. Yes, yes, kids love the beach - but when the fun in the sun is done, what’s next?

Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort has the answer, no matter what your children’s ages! Zipline over a lagoon. Test your skills on a challenging ropes course. Take an old-fashioned tandem bike ride down shaded sidewalks. This place offers so much, I bet you couldn’t even explore it all in one vacation (but you can sure have fun trying)!

For Fun: Just Add Water
Sandestin is unique in that it offers access to both the blue-green waves of the Gulf of Mexico and the calm shores of nearby Choctawhatchee Bay. Kids and adults can try boogie boards, parasailing, fishing, renting jet skis or pontoon boats…and this is the short list. I recommend heading out with snorkel gear to the sandbar (via kayak or a YOLO board) and finding sand dollars!
Alone Time
As a parent, I know how important “alone time” can be. And you can get yours right here. Escape to their four champion golf courses, the fabulous spa, or check out the shops and restaurants in The Village of Baytowne Wharf. While you’re having fun, your kids will be too, at “Club KZ.” At night, meet up for outdoor movies or a magic show.

Bonus: Many of these activities are FREE certain hours each day with the guest amenity card.
It Takes a Village
Shopping, dining, entertainment and adventure can be found at The Village of Baytowne Wharf. It’s a 28-acre pedestrian village with a family-friendly New Orleans feel. This is where you’ll find the zipline and rope course, too. They also host all kinds of themed nights and festivals, including the Wine Festival in late April and a Music Fest in August.

Take a Bike!
One of the best ways to explore Sandestin is on bicycle, but there’s no need to bring your own. Sandestin has all sizes to choose from, from the tiniest sizes with training wheels to the tandem style. Have an infant? There are bikes with baby seats and bikes with trailers, and every style comes with locks and helmets for all riders.

Jolee Island Nature Park
One more place to check out while you’re here is Jolee Island. It’s a 5-acre preserve with a boardwalk, picnic tables and a nature trail that goes around the island. (Kids love the tree house and pirate ship at the playground; parents love the views!)

Spring Time, Summer Time, Anytime
Honestly, anytime is a great time for a family vacation to Sandestin but spring break and summertime remain the most popular. Check out their current deals online or call 1-866-91-BEACH. ($139 a night for a two-bedroom villa!)
