ADD TO FAVORITES

If you are heading offshore today to do some bottom fishing in the Atlantic Ocean or any waters surrounding Monroe County, make sure you release any grouper you may catch.

The recreational and commercial harvest of shallow-water groupers species – which includes gag grouper, black grouper, red grouper, scamp, red hind, rock hind, coney, graysby, yellowfin grouper, yellowmouth grouper and tiger grouper – is prohibited from Jan. 1 through April 30.

This annual closure is designed to help reduce overfishing of this highly valued species. For more information on grouper management, click here.
