Kayak fishermen have a distinct advantage over their powerboating counterparts. The sleek, human-powered craft are silent as they slip across the grass flats. The fish don’t stand a chance.
Kayak fishing has become the fastest growing segment of the recreational angling market, with the plastic, sit-on-top boats the vessel of choice for many inshore fishermen.
Some of the best paddle fishermen in the state will head to Tampa on Feb. 19-20 for the Whiskey Joe’s Mammoth Slam Classic. This photo & release tournament will target redfish and trout. February is an ideal month to fish the grass flats of the Central Gulf Coast. Organizers expect anglers to come from all over the Southeast to compete in this kayak fishing season opener.
Anglers can register online. Participants will also earn points to qualify for the Invitational National Championship.
