Named after the area's popular fish, Pompano Beach is known for its water recreation activities.

Centrally located between Palm Beach and Miami, Pompano Beach is often referred to as "the Heart of the Gold Coast." Pompano Beach began as a farming and fishing community and derives its name from the area's popular ocean fish.

Pompano Beach is known for its excellent boating and fishing, accentuated by an offshore living coral reef accessible to inquisitive divers and snorkelers. Anglers and families flock to the approximately 1,000-foot municipal fishing pier, beachside playgrounds, grills and picnic tables to test their luck at catching fish and dining on the prize.

Pompano Beach also maintains more than 50 local parks for sports enthusiasts or those who have a penchant for outdoor relaxation. Local attractions, fine dining and shopping provide myriad entertaining options, not to mention annual special events including a holiday boat parade in December, seafood festival in April, fishing rodeo in May.

The Hillsboro Lighthouse can be easily spotted from Pompano Beach's ambulating roadways and paths along 3.5 miles of golden beachfront, sounding a beacon for the millions of visitors every year that are drawn to the excitement and accessibility of one of Broward County's gems.
