Fort Lauderdale celebrates the music, dance and culture of Hawaii, Samoa, Tahiti, New Zealand and other South Pacific Islands Jan. 18-20 during the opening weekend of the new IMAX film, Journey to the South Pacific 3D, at the Museum of Discovery & Science, 401 SW 2nd St.
The three-day event, held noon to 4 p.m. daily, will feature Polynesian Dancing Shows, surfing demonstrations and lessons, lei making demonstrations with fresh flowers, po’e tastings, Polynesian arts and crafts, Tahitian drum carving, Samoan tattoos and Hawaiian fashions.
Stand up paddle demonstrations will allow visitors to test their own paddle board skills. There also will be coral reef talks and science demonstrations on how the South Pacific islands were created by volcanos, how Polynesians navigated by the stars across the oceans in outrigger canoes and how a coral reef is created.
Admission is $14 for adults, $13 for seniors, ages 65 and up, and $12 for children, ages 2 to 12.
