It might be called Earth Day but here in Florida we've been celebrating all month long. Sure there are plenty of things happening on the actual day but don't forget about all the cool events that are still coming up at Florida State Parks to celebrate the occasion.
No matter what your outdoor interests are you're sure to find an event that you'll enjoy. You have your pick of volunteer cleanup efforts kayak trips guided bird walks and full-blown eco-festivals. Here's a sampler of what to expect:
April 25: Earth Day Nature Hike at Topsail Hill Preserve State Park - If you're near Santa Rosa Beach consider taking part in an Earth Day nature hike and through the park's various ecosystems where you have the chance to see and learn about what makes this place so unique. Expect to see spring migrating birds native plants and flowers in bloom and lots more. https://www.floridastateparks.org/park/Topsail-Hill
April 26: Beach Cleanup at Fort Pierce Inlet State Park - It takes a lot of hands to keep Florida's beaches looking good. If you're inclined to chip in and help the folks at Fort Pierce Inlet State Park will be putting on a beach cleanup event. Trash bags and disposable gloves will be provided but remember to bring your own water (how about bringing a reusable water bottle?) sun protection and dress comfortably. https://www.floridastateparks.org/park/Fort-Pierce-Inlet
April 26: Hide and Seek Earth Day Celebration at Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park - Load up the whole family and travel to White Springs for a full lineup of events from guided trail hikes to water conservation workshops. The fun starts at 10 a.m. and goes on until 3 p.m. with the scavenger hunt taking place at the river gazebo parking area. https://www.floridastateparks.org/park/Stephen-Foster
April 26: Marion County Springs Fest - Held at Silver Springs State Park this festival has it all from vendors to live entertainment. There'll be activities for the kids environmental workshops and discussions and lots of guided tours. Give them a like on Facebook for more information and to stay informed of what's happening at the event. https://www.floridastateparks.org/park/Silver-Springs
April 27: 25th Annual Earth Day Festival at Oscar Scherer State Park - Live music vendors food and tram tours are just part of the fun during the festival. There's a native plant vendor crafts and a photo exhibit happening too. Good news -- festival attendees can also enjoy free admission to the park on this date in celebration of Earth Day. https://www.floridastateparks.org/park/Oscar-Scherer
Again this is just a small list of what's happening between now and the end of the month at Florida State Parks. For more information and ideas visit www.floridastateparks.org or keep an eye on the VISIT FLORIDA Outdoors and Nature Facebook page where I'll share more events that I find.
