I’m gonna sound like a broken record, but I am ALWAYS learning new things about Florida. This time I’ve learned that some really hearty people go back in time to live like our ancestors. And the Florida Frontiersmen are doing it again Jan. 24-25 during the Alafia River Rendezvous.
The theme of the weekend is “On the Trail of our Ancestors” and it’s when participants will ditch all modern devices and camp and live and survive in a pre-1840s settlement. I looked at their website (which is post-1840) and saw the dedication these folks have to creating the clothing and understanding the pioneer culture so, for one brief moment, they can experience what it was like before radio, television, powered appliances, air conditioning, airplanes, and automobiles, canned food, and smartphones.
I’m not sure I could handle it, so my coonskin cap’s off to these amazing people.
