I’m fortunate to enjoy a lifestyle that gets me traveling around (even if never as much as I’d really like), and there's always something in Florida that keeps me satisfied.
Like Highway A1A.
It stretches pretty much the length of Florida’s east coast, and there are some sections that really make me happy. One of these is begins just south of the fabled Bridge of Lions in St. Augustine.
If you haven’t ridden the stretch of A1A south to Daytona Beach, put it on your calendar when you’re ready for a brief road trip.
There are sites to see in the 50-some miles but the standout is the Atlantic Ocean because A1A often scoots up against the waterfront and hugs the coastline for miles at a time.
Even better, you’ll be just about ten feet above sea level as you pass Anastasia Island State Park, Fort Matanzas, Marineland, the iconic Pier Restaurant in Flagler Beach. After that, you’ll enjoy many more miles of oceanfront cruising.
This is an “only-in-Florida” experience and the sight of the ocean and sound of the pounding waves is pure satisfaction.
And after you reach Daytona Beach, just turn around and do it again.
