Test Your Strategic Skills at Timacuan

By: Carling Nolan

As a professional golfer, I’ve played hundreds of golf courses. At this point in my career, I’m looking for courses that really get my attention, courses I’ll remember months after I’ve played them and keep me coming back for more. One of these places is Timacuan Golf and Country Club in Lake Mary, FL.

I spent some off seasons in Orlando a few years ago, and I knew exactly which courses to visit depending on what part of my game I needed to work on. Whenever I had practiced until my hands blistered and I felt like my game had never been better, I would always head to Timacuan. This is a course that takes more than good shots to master. It takes strategy!

Each hole differs to the extreme. The second hole is a par 4 with an island fairway! You can play it safe up the left or cut off water for a shorter approach on the right… decisions, decisions.

Some holes will dogleg and some will be straight up the middle with a tree blocking your view to the green. Come in from the wrong angle and you will leave yourself with an impossible putt. Flat is a word they have never heard of at Timacuan; you will deal with undulations and mounds throughout the course.

The more I played this course the more I learned how to play it. This is why it always left me wanting to come back for more. This course made me a better player, and it will do the same for you. I don’t want to give the impression that this is an impossible golf course, just a thinker’s course. With seven sets of tees, Timacuan is set up for any skill level. No matter if you can hit the draw on number 18 to catch the “speed slot” down the left or play safely to the right, you’ll enjoy this course just as much as the rest of us.

If you’re tired of the same old courses and are looking for something with a unique edge, then Timacuan is the place for you!
