MetroWest Golf Club, located just minutes from Orlando’s theme parks and attractions, has just re-opened this winter after a $1.5 million renovation.
The course was impressive when I played it three years ago, but re-surfacing and enlargement of all 18 greens have brought MetroWest up to championship tournament standards.
Construction began July 1 to redesign every green and bunker on the course. The project was completed in mid-November, and the course is now one of the most popular daily-fee courses in Orlando. MetroWest’s renovtions have had time to settle in, so now is the perfect time of year to test it for yourself.
Originially designed by Robert Trent Jones, MetroWest was renovated under the direction of Billy Fuller Golf Design of Atlanta, GA. Fuller Design is known for their expertise in bunker renovation and course stragety, so their changes will make you think twice about your decisions when playing this new course.
MetroWest has a history of famous elevation changes and mounding around the greens. Combined with the new bunkers and closely mown chipping areas, golfers will now experience unique opportunities around the greens.
Along with bigger greens and better bunkers, Fuller also enlarged the teeboxes and expanded the practice facility. New putting and chipping greens are rolling better than ever with TifEagle Burmuda grass. MetroWest has not only improved their landscape, but have also added a new fleet of GPS golf carts and premiuim TaylorMade rental clubs.
MetroWest is open daily to guests, residents, and members. Having hosted thousands of public tournaments, this award winning golf course provides a fair yet demanding challenge for players of all skill levels.
