Golf Channel’s Big Break Florida premiered last night at the Omni Amelia Island Resort with an exciting first episode filled with amazing shots and big prizes.

Sadena Parks went away with $2,500 in her pocket, while Renee Skidmore escaped elimination. With so much anxiety on this show, how does a player prepare for such an experience?

Renee is no rookie when it comes to pressure situations. She has been playing on the LPGA Symetra Tour for four years and has seen her fair share of difficult situations. However, she knew the Big Break would be the toughest challenge of her life. So she came prepared.

Along with 15 outfits and plenty of golf balls, this tour veteran also packed golf mental books. Her favorite book to read during the taping of the show was With Winning In Mind.

“Big Break is an experience unlike any other. It can be emotionally draining with long hours, a lot of time around other girls, and lack of sleep,” said Skidmore.

You never know what you're going to get with the Big Break, but there are always key challenges that always seem to show up. Skidmore knew there would be a glass-breaking challenge, so she purposely practiced her punch shots at trees throughout her practice rounds.

“It was difficult to practice those shots because there were always houses behind those trees! I was definitely used to putting pressure on myself.”

You can expect these players to be at the top of their game, because this season was filmed right after the 2013 tour season. Most of the women, including Skidmore, just finished with stage II of LPGA qualifying, and their games were never better. After her qualifying round, Renee hurried home and packed her things and headed straight for the airport.

So how does one prepare for the Big Break? How about LPGA QSchool and plenty of mental preparation! Looks like Skidmore’s toughness helped her keep her spot on Big Break Florida, and it will be exciting to see how far this girl can go.
