Lobster season is just around the corner, and Key West certainly knows how to celebrate this delicious delicacy.

Normally reserved for fine dining menus and fancy occasions, the Key West LobsterFest gives crustacean-lovers the chance to roll up their sleeves and dig in to as much lobster as they can eat for four days straight.

Known as spiny lobsters, the Keys' clawless crustaceans offer sweet and tender meat. You can enjoy them steamed with melted butter, baked, stuffed, blended into a creamy bisque, or chilled in crisp salads. You'll definitely find a big variety of lobster dishes during this festival and something to appease every appetite.

Florida Keys lobster season officially begins on Aug. 6, with the LobsterFest celebration kicking things off the weekend of the 7th. Here's the schedule for the weekend:

Thursday, Aug. 7 - Lobster Boil at the Sunset Tiki Bar & Grille
In addition to lobster, the feast also includes shrimp, andouille sausage, corn on the cob, new potatoes, and drink specials.  There will also be live entertainment!

Friday, Aug. 8 - Duval Crawl
More than a dozen featured bars will participate along with a  jammin' party at Rick's/Durty Harry's Entertainment Complex

Saturday, Aug. 9 - Key West Lobsterfest Street Fair
Lobster lovers can sample offerings ranging from tantalizing appetizers to traditional dinners with all the trimmings. All lobster served will be caught by Keys lobster fishermen, ensuring fresh-off-the-boat flavor, and dishes will be prepared by chefs from leading local restaurants. There will also be vendors' art, crafts and merchandise, and a free outdoor concert.

Sunday, Aug. 10 - Lobster Brunch
The festival's savory schedule concludes with a Sunday lobster brunch at the DoubleTree by Hilton Grand Key Resort.  (Reservations are required. Call (305) 293-1818.)

You can feel good about indulging in succulent lobster all weekend; the Key West Lobsterfest benefits a scholarship fund for Key West High School students.
