Florida's 2014 James Beard Foundation Award Semifinalists

Are you familiar with the James Beard Foundation Awards?

They're a big deal as far as chefs are concerned and are considered by many foodies to be the Oscars of the restaurant world.

The James Beard Foundation announced its list of Restaurant and Chef Award Semifinalists at a press conference in Orlando, the first time the semifinalists were announced at a live event. 

Selected from a list of over 38,000 entries, the prestigious group of semi-finalists represents a wide range of talented chefs and professionals. You can see a complete list listonline at jamesbeard.org/awards

I've highlighted our Florida culinary stars below.

Joey Redner, Cigar City Brewing, Tampa

BEST CHEF:  SOUTH
Greg Baker, The Refinery, Tampa
Chad Johnson, SideBern's, Tampa
Jose Mendin, Pubbelly, Miami Beach
James and Julie Petrakis, The Ravenous Pig, Winter Park
Steve Phelps, Indigenous, Sarasota
Henry Salgado, Spanish River Grill, New Symrna Beach
Hari Pulapaka, Cress, DeLand
Horacio Rivadero, The District, Miami

 

The Foundation will announce the final nominees for all award categories on Tuesday, March 18, 2014. 

And on May 5, 2014, the awards will be handed out at the James Beard Award Ceremony and Gala Reception in New York City.
