On my recent visit to Universal Orlando Resort, I had the opportunity to stay at Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort. This value/moderate resort features a retro feel of the 1950s and ‘60s -- it's like taking a step back in time, and I loved it.

Here are some of my favorite things about Cabana Bay Resort:

1. Family Suites

In addition to typical hotel rooms, the resort has family suites that can sleep up to six people. The suites include two queen-size beds, a fold-out bed in the living space, a kitchenette with microwave and a mini-fridge, two flat-screen TVs and a bathroom with room for three people to get ready at once.

2. Retro Feel

With a 1950s and ‘60s vibe, the resort definitely sets up a retro feel that’s fun and comfortable. From the V05 shampoo and Zest soap in the bathrooms to the hip artwork on the walls, this resort is themed perfectly. Be on the lookout for old-school automobiles out front, too – the perfect setting for a fun hotel like this.

3. Galaxy Bowl

The 10-lane bowling alley located inside the main building of the resort is a fantastic spot for families to have some indoor fun. Order some great bowling alley food (I recommend the appetizer sampler.)

4. Bayliner Diner

I dined in the food court a few times during my stay and loved the variety of dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Not to mention there’s an Icee machine with four different flavors – perfect after a day at the parks. The resort also offers refillable mugs for purchase while at the resort, which are definitely a money saver if you're a soda drinker.

5. Outdoor Fun

From the Lazy River Courtyard to the Cabana Courtyard with a waterslide and zero-entry pool, this resort is like a waterpark in itself. There’s even a secured area for families with small children to partake in the fun with a mini-splash waterpark. If you’re looking to relax, rent one of the numerous pool cabanas complete with a fan, television and a mini-refrigerator.

6. Resort Property Perks

By staying on property, resort guests receive Early Park Admission to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™, one hour before the theme park opens, valid theme park admission required. Guests can also take advantage of complimentary shuttle buses and walking paths to both Universal Orlando theme parks and Universal CityWalk.

I’m looking forward to returning to this resort during my next family vacation to Universal Orlando. It’s the type of place you could stay at and never even need to leave.
