This weekend, I’m headed to Orlando to celebrate Mardi Gras at the Universal Orlando Resort. The festivities take place select nights now through May 31 at the Universal Studios Florida park and it’s an event for all ages.
The Universal Studios Mardi Gras Grand Celebration features a parade, live entertainment and, of course, great Cajun food.
In the French Quarter Courtyard, hear live, authentic music straight from New Orleans and sample delicacies such as shrimp gumbo and jambalaya.
This weekend’s music headliner is Robin Thicke; other weekends you’ll find big names like Nelly, Huey Lewis & the News, Weezer and even The Roots. Here’s a look at the full concert lineup.
This year’s parade theme is "Around the World in Eighty Days," reflecting fantasy and exploration of Jules Verne’s classic adventure tale. You’ll experience street performers, floats, dancers and plenty of beads.
And for the kids, check out the Little Jester's Parade Viewing Area, which opens one hour before parade time for little ones to experience their own private experience.
The Mardi Gras festivities are included with park admission – just consider it a bonus!
If you're a Florida resident, be sure to check out the Mardi Gras vacation packages for additional savings at on-site resorts like the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, the Loews Royal Pacific Resort and the Hard Rock Hotel.
Check back later next week for a recap of my Mardi Gras experience and, of course, plenty of pictures, too. To plan your own visit and a full concert listing, visit www.universalorlando.com/mardigras.
