Pets are family members, too! That's the philosophy on stunning, seashell-covered Sanibel and Captiva islands, located on the southwest coast of Florida.

Connected to the mainland by the Sanibel Causeway, the islands are an oasis of charm with lots of family-friendly things to do -- even involving the furriest member of the group.

Vetstreet.com recently listed one of Sanibel's beaches, Algiers Beach, as one of the most dog-friendly stretches of sand in the country. As you likely already know, the beaches on the island have more than 250 different species of seashells. So while you scour the sand for beauties to add to your collection, bring along your four-legged friend to help in the hunt.

Here's a list of a few pet-friendly places to stay on Sanibel and Captiva Islands:

I'm envious that you can get your pup on a paddleboard! Very cool!
The question is, do any of these places accept cats? So many times we have called pet-friendly properties, only to be told that their definition of pets only goes for dogs.
Hi Chris!
Great question. Many hotels use the term "pet-friendly" but have different definitions as to what that actually means. Here's the good news: 'Tween Waters Inn's pet-friendly policy applies to cats as well as dogs.
