While many might head to Miami Beach for the allure of the aquamarine Atlantic Ocean, there are some other fantastic alternatives to beat the heat that might make you throw in the towel and call it a pool day.
I caught up with Jeremy Albelda of TheWorldorBust.com and he gave me his picks for five of the best pools in Miami Beach. This list will surely leave you with no regrets on skipping the surf.
1. The Mondrian
This bayfront, luxury hotel is not only enjoyed by discerning tourists, but locals alike. Located on South Beach at 1100 West Ave., The Mondrian sports a large relaxing pool, but the view is the real star of this show. Come in the late afternoon, have a dip, and then enjoy a cocktail as you watch the sun set over tranquil Biscayne Bay and the impressive Miami skyline.
2. The Delano
Located at 1685 Collins Ave., The Delano is one of the most famous and historic hotels in Miami Beach. Its iconic Art Deco façade is a stunner and from the second you walk into the main lobby you'll notice the massive columns and chic décor. The Delano’s massive infinity pool is an attraction in itself with underwater speakers gently playing classical music to the amazing poolside cabanas and comfortable chaise lounges.
3. The Freehand Miami
Believe it or not, The Freehand, housed in the old Indian Creek Hotel at 2727 Indian Creek Drive (it still says Indian Creek Hotel on the exterior because of historic preservation rules), is now a hostel. The perfectly manicured outdoor space has a tropical jungle-like ambiance and the pool is a tranquil retreat from the hubbub of South Beach. Come in the afternoon, soak up some late day sun and then enjoy a craft cocktail (seriously, some of the best in Miami!) at the Broken Shaker located in the Freehand’s garden.
4. The Fontainebleau
It should be no surprise that The Fontainebleau at 4441 Colins Ave., makes the list for the best hotel pools in Miami Beach. This massive hotel complex has multiple buildings that surround its expansive pool area, which sports a mélange of places to take a dip. Enjoy an array restaurant choices, private cabanas, countless pool chairs, Wi-Fi and even lockers to secure your valuables.
5. The Setai Hotel
The Setai Hotel at 2001 Collins Ave. is the definition of luxury. This spectacular property features both an original Art Deco building as well as a modern, gleaming glass tower that offers commanding views over the Atlantic. The ambiance of The Setai is unique with a neo-Asian motif throughout that inspires relaxation and tranquility. The pool area, which is just steps from the beach, offers three beautifully designed pools that are all climate-controlled and monitored to fit the temperature for the day.
