If you’re lucky enough to be at the beach, you’re lucky enough. Or so said a little hand-painted sign in our villa at Palm Island Resort.
I was inclined to agree, because during out getaway there the shelling was spectacular, the birding was unbelievable, and the beach was beautiful. Our villa was pretty peachy, too – it opened to the Gulf of Mexico from both the bedroom and living room.

Palm Island Resort, located along the Intracoastal Waterway on Florida’s southwest gulf coast in the Charlotte Harbor area, encompasses a two-mile portion of private, pristine beach on the Gulf of Mexico at the northern end of Palm Island.
The island, a mere 700-yards wide at its broadest point, is only accessible by private boat or ferry. One on the Resort, golf carts, bicycles and walking are the only means of transportation.
