4 Florida Beaches Dominate Dr. Beach’s Top 10 List in 2015

The news is out! And it's all good if you're headed to the Sunshine State.

Every year, visitors await Dr. Steve Leatherman’s annual Top 10 Beaches list, eager to discover beaches with the softest sands and clearest waters.

After all, Leatherman, better known as Dr. Beach, is renowned as America’s foremost beach expert. For more than 24 years he’s evaluated and ranked beaches all over the globe.

And he loves Florida beaches, always including them and sometimes naming them as the best in the nation.

Once again the Sunshine State dominated, snagging four of the coveted spots on the list.

Barefoot Beach Preserve County Park in North Naples claimed the number-two spot in the nation. The doctor loved this 342-acre park’s shallow water and gentle surf, commenting how they make its beach ideal for bathing and swimming.

St. George Island State Park nestled on Florida’s Forgotten Coast in the northwest region of the state snagged the number three position. Dr. Beach cited its squeaky clean sand, generous beaches and birding and fishing.

Cape Florida State Park snuggled at the southern tip of Key Biscayne splashed into the number six spot with its clear emerald-colored waters, gentle surf and fine white coral-sand beach. That it’s home to the Cape Florida Lighthouse only adds to its appeal.

Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park, located in Naples in the southwestern corner of Florida, boasts a 166-acre beach park characterized by sea oats sand dunes and fine white sand sprinkled with seashells. Leatherman named it ninth on the list, noting its observation tower, as well as amenities that include bathrooms, changing stalls, and outside rinse showers.
