A nickel will get you on the subway, but garlic will get you a seat ~ Unknown
When one investigates garlic, one quickly begins to realize what a wondrous little plant it is.
Considered both a vegetable and an herb, garlic is said to fight off evil spirits as well as keep vampires away. It has been used to treat everything from acne and warts to toothaches. Modern medicine believes it helps to ward off heart disease, cancer, colds and flu, in addition to lowering cholesterol and reducing plaque buildup in the arteries. Plus, it’s in practically everything we eat.
So it’s only fitting that this member of the onion family is at the heralded center of a premier food and entertainment event.
The Delray Beach Garlic Fest, appropriately nicknamed “the best stinkin’ party in town,” wafts into Delray Beach Feb. 7-9, 2014. Now in its 15th year, the Festival is dedicated to exploring the numerous health and culinary possibilities of garlic.
The Village by the Sea will be brimming with unique dishes; past treats have included Garlic Ice Cream, Argentinean Garlic BBQ and Garlic Fest crab cakes.
The Fest is also famed for its epic musical performances. This year’s lineup includes the Fabulous Fleetwoods, south Florida's longest-running rockin' blues band, and Collective Soul, which shot to international fame with their 1993 release “Hints, Allegations and Things Left Unsaid” and their mega number one hit “Shine.”

The Garlic Fest was founded by a group of local folks looking to establish a fund-raising source for local non-profit organizations serving education and the arts for youth. The event relies on volunteer organizations to staff the event. That non-profit organization, appropriately named Delray Beach Arts, Inc. has donated over $4,390,000 and proudly continues to grow its charitable donations each year.
