The glorious building may be almost 87 years old, but the movies that Tampa Theatre has lined up for September are some of the edgiest, most contemporary films on the art-house circuit today.
Among the pickings (most start at 7:30 p.m.):
· Short Term 12, follows Grace (Brie Larson), who has dedicated her life to helping kids who have slipped through the cracks of the system. Committed to her job and in love with kindhearted co-worker Mason (John Gallagher Jr.), she's still struggling with her own troubled past when she learns that her life is about to change forever. (Sept. 13)
· Cutie & The Boxer, a reflection on devotion, sacrifice and the creative spirit. This candid New York tale explores the chaotic 40-year marriage of famed boxing painter Ushio Shinohara and his equally artistic wife, Noriko Shinohara. (Sept. 23)
Tickets for Tampa Theatre’s contemporary feature films are $10 for adults and $8 for children, seniors, military and members at the box office, 711 N. Franklin St., downtown Tampa.
