You’re cruising down the Overseas Highway with the car’s top down. The water on both sides is a dizzying array of blues and greens not usually seen outside of cleaning bottles. You’ve got 3 ½ hours to get from Miami to Key West.

What do you want to listen to as you count down the mile markers?

Reaching from Key West to Key Largo, “The New Pirate Radio 101.7 FM” is our station of choice. More intuitive than Pandora and strong enough to take on your best playlist, WKYZ ranges far and wide in its tunes, from Roxy Music and Iggy Pop to Ryan Adams to retro classics from ELO.

Based in Key Colony Beach in the middle of the Florida Keys, the independent station adopted its adult rock format in 2011, targeting locals and visitors, 25 to 54 years old. It mixes adult alternative music with modern pop and rock classics, which means you’ll hear new music like the Black Keys, Florence and the Machine, Imagine Dragons, The Kooks & Of Monsters & Men, along with older rock artists like Dave Mathews, REM, Cold Play, U2, The Beatles, Tom Petty, Van Morrison and David Bowie.

Haven’t planned your trip yet? You can still listen online or download a smart phone app from the station’s website,
