Key West gets into the southernmost holiday spirit with a series of events known as the “Bight Before Christmas.”
A “bight” is a bend in the shoreline and is often used to describe wide harbors formed by bends, including Key West’s historical seaport.
The “Harbor Walk of Lights, the annual ceremonial illumination of the island, kicks off the celebration at 6 p.m. on Nov. 27 along the harbor area, from Green to Grinnell streets.
Events carry on through New Year’s Eve, with after-dark tours of the island’s famous bed-and-breakfast inns held on Dec. 6 and Dec. 13.
Even pets get in on the holiday spirit during a pet photo session with Santa on Dec. 13.
Concerts, a boat parade and a holiday-themed classic car show are among the other offerings.
