Capital Records: Five Songs for Your Tallahassee Playlist

Florida is nearly 500 miles long. So depending on where you are in the state, it can be a hike to get to the capital. If you’re Tallahassee-bound, add these songs to your road trip playlist and watch the miles fly by.

1) The Doors: Light My Fire. Frontman Jim Morrison attended Florida State University in Tallahassee, where he was arrested for the first time in 1963.

2) George Clinton: Atomic Dog. The funkmaster calls Tallahassee home. All together now: “Bow-wow-wow-yippie-yo-yippie-yeah!”

3) Ellen Taaffe Zwilich: Symphony No. 1. I didn’t realize you could win a Pulitzer Prize for music, but the classical composer was the first female to do so in 1983. Melt away the stress of traffic with this soothing orchestral piece.

4) Julian Edwin "Cannonball" Adderley: Mercy, Mercy, Mercy! The late great saxman graduated from Florida A&M University and went on to work with jazz heavyweights including Miles Davis and John Coltrane.

5) T-Pain: Buy U a Drank. The “T” stands for Tallahassee, so we’ll give props to the rapper whose government name is Faheem Rasheed Najm. You stay classy, Tally!
