The summer of 2013 has been full of dining discounts, from restaurant weeks in Orlando, Jacksonville and Tampa Bay to a scalloping package in Crystal River to hotel deals for a barbecue cook-off on Amelia Island.
It's no wonder my pants are starting to feel snug.
Thank goodness, this fall there's another bargain that can get us all back on track: free admission days at Florida's state parks. On these special days, entry is free to all Florida State Parks with the exception of Skyway Fishing Pier State Park in St. Petersburg. So fall is the perfect time to hike, bike and kayak back into our skinny jeans.
Sunday, Sept. 8: Read my lips: In honor of International Literacy Day, admission is free for anyone who flashes a library card, carries a checked-out library book or donates a new or gently used family-friendly book at the park.
Monday, Nov. 11: For Veterans Day, everyone gets in free -- veteran or not.
