Every year at back-to-school time, my parents would give me and my older brother each $100 to spend on new gear. Freddie would blow his entire budget on that season’s pair of must-have sneakers.
Meanwhile, I would get my parents to take me to Value City -- a store in my native Cleveland that’s just what it sounds like. I’d wind up with a whole cart full of new clothes. (Anytime a clothing store offers shopping carts, chances are you’re about to get a great deal.)
Regardless of whether you have Freddie’s approach or my approach to back-to-school shopping, you can stretch your dollar this weekend thanks to Florida’s Sales Tax Holiday. The annual event happens Aug. 2 to 4, 2013. This is your chance to chance to shop tax-free for clothing, accessories, and much more -- new bicycle, anyone?
And no, you don’t actually have to be a student or the parent of a student to take advantage.
You can find details, including a list of eligible items, on the Florida Department of Revenue website. Happy shopping!
