Last week, I had the privilege of speaking to a group of international journalists at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. I found a primo parking space right in front of the building where the event was being held.
If only I could’ve found some change. I rifled through my car’s cup holder, my wallet and the darkest hollows of my purse, all to no avail.
I thought about using my credit card to park in the campus garage, but there really wasn’t time to move my car. (You see, my air conditioner is broken, and riding with the windows down had turned me into a sweaty, bird’s-nest-haired mess. I still had to wash my face, put on makeup and fix my hair before the event started. But I digress…) Besides, I didn’t want to have to walk alone through a parking garage at the end of the night.
That’s when I noticed the “Pay by Phone Parking” label on the meter. I whipped out my iPhone and downloaded the free Parkmobile app.
No change? No problem. I entered my credit card, license plate and phone numbers, and I was in business. I could pay for parking, receive a text message when my parking session was about to expire and even add time -- all from my phone.
I only wish I had downloaded the app sooner. Then I could’ve had even more time to tame my unwieldy hair. Do yourself a favor and download the app before you need it.
The Parkmobile app is available for iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phone. Parkmobile is currently or soon to be available in these Florida cities:
