Congress recognizes the first full week of May as National Travel and Tourism Week. For travel industry folks, that can mean conference calls, meetings and proclamations. For bargain hunters, it means something else: deals.
The City of Gainesville and Alachua County celebrate with a week of discounts and freebies:
Saturday, May 4: At the Hippodrome Theatre, enjoy buy-one-get-one-free tickets for a performance of Robin Hood on the main stage.
Sunday, May 5: BOGO Robin Hood tickets continue.
Monday, May 6: At the Florida Museum of Natural History, you can buy one get one free value admission Titanoboa Monster Snake exhibit and the Butterfly Rainforest.
Wednesday, May 8: You and your wallet can go back in time at Dudley Farm Historic State Park, where admission is free today. You can also get 50 percent off canoe rentals at Santa Fe Canoe Outpost.
Thursday, May 9: The discounts continue at Santa Fe Canoe Outpost, which today offers BOGO boat rentals. Also, get BOGO admissions to Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo.
Friday, May 10: It’s Pepsi Family Night at the University of Florida’s baseball stadium, when the Gators try to chomp the Auburn University Tigers during the 7 p.m. game. For $20, get four general admission tickets, four hotdogs and four sodas. But wait… There’s more: ID-carrying City of Gainesville residents can get two-for-one bleacher seats. That’s two tickets for only $6.
Saturday, May 11: You’ve got three chances to take advantage of BOGO tickets to the Santa Fe College Kika Silva Pla Planetarium. Showtimes are 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Also at 7 p.m. is another UF versus Auburn baseball game. Stop by any SunTrust Bank in Gainesville to buy two reserved bleacher seats for just $6.
Saturday, May 12: Happy Mothers Day! Show Mommy Dearest that your love don’t cost a thing when you take her to Kanapaha Botanical Gardens, where moms get in free today. If those George Washingtons are burning a hole in your pocket, head to the 1 p.m. UF-versus-Auburn baseball game, where you can enjoy $1 general admission tickets, small popcorn and 12-ounce sodas.
