October means Halloween costumes, pumpkin-spice everything and, in Florida, the perfect time to plant a garden. So Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales is holding a different type of Octoberfest. The fifth annual Boktoberfest celebrates Florida plants while giving a nod to German culture.
The FREE event takes place on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Here’s what to expect:
More than 40 vendors selling plants native to Florida and beyond. (Garden members can also get a sneak preview of the plant sale on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.)
Guest speakers discussing vegetable gardening, composting, homemade herbal cleaners and more.
Live music from pop to rock to classical to the lederhosen-clad trio Jimmy and Eckhard German Oktoberfest Show.
German delicacies for sale, including bratwurst, potato salad, doughnuts with Bavarian crème and yes, a Biergarten.
Kids’ activities including petting zoo and clown. Face painting, pumpkin painting, airbrush tattoos and tree climbing are available for an additional cost.
Free satellite parking and shuttle transportation.
