New Year’s is a time for physical -- and fiscal -- fitness. If yoga’s your exercise of choice, make it more enjoyable when you take things outside. Try a sun salutation in the actual sun, or practice downward dog downtown. Here are three affordable outdoor yoga classes in Florida.
Tampa: One of my favorite sights is downtown Tampa on a Sunday evening. As the sun sets over the Hillsborough River, hundred of yogis flock to Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park for an hourlong class led by Yoga Downtown Tampa. Classes start at 5 p.m. in the fall and winter, and 6 p.m. in the spring and summer. Suggested donation: $5.
Miami: There’s strength in numbers, so join a few thousand of your closest friends for instructor-led yoga classes against the backdrop of beautiful Bayfront Park. The 75-minute classes are held most Mondays and Wednesdays at 6 p.m. and Saturdays at 9 a.m. Cost: free.
Orlando: Lake Eola Park has it all: swan boats, a restaurant, an amphitheater and yoga classes every Sunday at 11 a.m. Cost: free.
There are lots more outdoor yoga gatherings around Florida. To find one near you, search yoga.meetup.com. And for more free and inexpensive things to do all year long, follow me on Twitter and Facebook.
