What can possibly be better than visiting a National Wildlife Refuge? Visiting one for free, that's what, and the good folks at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have announced what days you can access refuges at no charge in 2014.
Here are some dates you'll want to pencil in on your adventure calendar:
· January 20: Martin Luther King Jr. Day
· February 15-17: Presidents’ Day weekend
· September 27: National Public Lands Day
· October 12: The first day of National Wildlife Refuge Week
· November 11: Veterans Day
Remember, while the entrance fee is waived on these days, fees for private concessionaires and special tours aren't covered. You'll still want to make sure to bring along your wallet.
Not all National Wildlife Refuges charge an admission fee, but several do. Here in Florida, you'll be able to access cool places like Merritt Island NWR, St. Marks NWR, J.M. 'Ding' Darling NWR, plus several others at no cost on these days. Take advantage, my friends.
