For lovers of Florida's wild side, spending time on a scenic trail is pure bliss. Whether it's to wind down or kick things into high gear, Florida State Parks have you covered.
It's the perfect time to get outside, too — fall is finally here, and with cool weather comes cool adventures. This one involves a little bit of sweat.
Runners, get ready: The Real Florida Run Series is happening now through November, featuring 5K and 10K races at several Southwest Florida State Parks. Each run (or walk, if you prefer) takes place in a different state park, offering up a unique experience and theme each time. Participants can sign up for individual events, or save some cash by registering for multiple races. Runners who enter more than five races will receive a special award.
The races range from Halloween-themed runs to off-road, muddy experiences. Here's the schedule:
Oct. 13: Lovers Key State Park — Bobcat 5K/10K
Oct. 19: Paynes Creek Historic State Park — Halloween 5K/10K
Oct. 27: Koreshan State Historic Site — Halloween Costume 5K/10K
Nov. 2: Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park — Fall for Fakahatchee 5K/10K
Nov. 10: Charlotte Harbor Preserve State Park — Mud Run 5K/10K
Nov. 16: Little Manatee River State Park — Going Native 5K/10K
Nov. 24: Oscar Scherer State Park — Nature Bound 5K/10K
