If you’re traveling around Central Florida and are looking for a destination on your next road trip, let me suggest the Yalaha Bakery.
It’s truly a surprising success story, since this German-style bakery is well off the beaten path – but apparently well worth the trip for hundreds of fans that gather here nearly every day (and especially on weekends) to pick up healthy, hearty breads that are free from preservatives, chemical additives, fat and cholesterol. There are pastries and deli sandwiches and a neat little patio area where customers gather to listen to live bands and enjoy the experience of finding a quirky little business in a quirky little place called Yalaha (click for map).
I can’t really explain the appeal since there are bigger bakeries in bigger places that aren’t nearly as popular, but maybe it’s become a popular destination where city dwellers can shake off the dust of urban living and enjoy a little bit of Bavaria in the heart of Lake County.
