You probably never knew this (I sure didn’t), but before this summer if you roamed 400 miles of Florida’s west coast, you wouldn’t have found a single official International Game Fish Association weigh station. Really.
So that’s why the Plantation on Crystal River anxious to let everyone know that they are now the only place where local anglers can have their catch considered for one of IGFA’s world records.
Here’s something else I didn’t know: The IGFA has nearly 7,000 records up for grabs, and the weigh station here can accommodate fish up to 2,000 pounds! (And if you do catch a 2,000 pound fish around here – call me. I’ll have to see it to believe it.)
The station’s based at the resort’s Plantation Adventure Center and they carry all the documents you’ll need to file your catch. When you’re in the area, that could include tarpon, redfish, speckled trout, black drum, Spanish mackerel, tripletail, cobia and sharks and largemouth bass.
By the way, if you’re not out for a day of fishing, their dive center here can help you get under the water and pontoon boats can take you out for a leisurely tour. You can get all the information on the marina, dive center, and weigh station at PlantationonCrystalRiver.com and when you call (800) 632-6262.
