Destination Dunedin: A Gulf Coast Oasis

ADD TO FAVORITES

A few weeks ago, the missus and I traveled over to the Gulf Coast where, just about ten minutes north of Clearwater (click here for map), is one of the cutest little towns in Florida. Actually, Dunedin’s not so little. There are about 37,000 residents here, but the downtown shopping village (which adjoins a picture-perfect marina and pier) looks and feels like a small town about a tenth the size.

By chance, we happened to arrive during a craft festival and it was wonderful to see the town in its best light. People were strolling up and down the main avenue, dropping into gift shops, boutiques, antique shops, and independent restaurants and enjoying a very cool vibe.

There are lovely parks, quaint bed and breakfasts, and a section of the 37-mile-long Pinellas Trail rolls right through the center of the shopping village. What else? Just off the coast, two of the most beautiful beaches in America are found on Honeymoon and Caladesi Islands.

When it’s time for a road trip to a unique Florida destination, Dunedin should be on your list.
