You may know I have a soft spot in my heart for DeLand, the picturesque town about 30 minutes west of Daytona. In fact, it was the subject of one of my recent videos.

Apparently, I’m not the only one who loves downtown DeLand. So do thousands and thousands of others. For proof, all you have to do is look at the results of a bracket poll featured in the Orlando Sentinel.

In a search for the ‘Other Best Downtown’ (they concluded Orlando was a shoo-in), after weeks of voting it got down to two top contenders. My hometown of Mount Dora was runner-up, and DeLand came in first.

And why not? There are wonderful restaurants throughout downtown (including the top-rated Cress), great music shops, boutiques, art galleries, fantastic antiques, vintage record stores, public art, and Stetson University. Nearby, there’s skydiving, natural springs, and the St. Johns River.

For more information on DeLand’s ascension to the ranks of great downtowns, read the Orlando Sentinel report, and be sure to find more features on this wonderful Florida destination at VISIT FLORIDA.
