A Municipal Course with the Nicklaus Touch

By: Carling Nolan

If you haven't played North Palm Beach Country Club since before 2006, you wouldn't even recognize it now.  Jack Nicklaus was so excited with his renovation that he charged the course only $1 for his work!

The term "municipal golf course" is usually a dead giveaway for "mediocre," but NPBCC gives it a whole new meaning!  It was famously highlighted twice by Golf Magazine's Traveling Joe as a "Must play course in South Florida." I got the chance to visit this course and was shocked at its fantastic views, fast greens, and all around design.

Here are my three favorite reasons for playing this course:

1.) Most of the holes on the front nine run along the Intracoastal Waterway. There's nothing more relaxing than making birdies alongside bay views and large houses.

2.) Hello prices! You can play here for as low as $50. Any course that is in this kind of shape will normally cost you $100-$200. Chuh-Ching!

3.) Amazing practice facility. Winter is the busy time in Florida, but we are always working with less daylight. NPBCC solves that problem with a lighted driving range that's open late for a family fun evening adventure (or perfect for me as a professional golfer looking to find an edge!)

So come on down and visit North Palm Beach Country Club. It's right in my back yard in West Palm, so there's a good chance you'll see me there!
