At Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, calling the resort operators for information is sooo 2010.
The flagship Northwest Florida destination has a free “Explore Sandestin” app for iPhone and Android users that is ultra-handy for exploring virtually everything on the property, from shopping to restaurants to activities and, of course, golf.
If you have a reservation, you can enter the number in the app and find out activities scheduled during your stay. Without a reservation, you can still surf around and check out calendars, photos and webcams. (Warning, the live beach webcam may be depressing to view from your office cubicle. I’ve never seen a cloud in the sky, how do they do that?)
The most popular feature of the app for visitors is the Tram Information tab, which shows the locations of the resort’s free trams in real time. Hit the refresh button and watch them move closer to where you are.
For golfers, the app offers information, photos and directions for Sandestin’s four courses, plus online booking. If you’re on the beach one morning and suddenly get an itch to play in the afternoon, all it takes is a few clicks. Course closure and maintenance news is also included, which us golfers appreciate.
The Explore Sandestin App came online in May 2012, and resort officials report it has been downloaded nearly 2,000 times. Call it a secret that shouldn’t be secret for much longer. It’s far cooler than calling the information desk.
