Wellness Head-to-Toe: Stay Fit on the Beach

ADD TO FAVORITES

Looking for the perfect place to rejuvenate and boost those endorphins? There's something soothing about the cool ocean breeze, bright rays of sunshine and sand between your toes. A vacation to the beach is exactly what the doctor ordered!

Here are a few wellness tips from one of Fort Lauderdale’s foremost fitness experts, Ana Sa, certified fitness instructor and personal trainer at the Harbor Beach Marriot Resort & Spa.

Take an Exercise Class on Vacation

Harbor Beach is an idyllic resort located on a private beach in Fort Lauderdale, with a full spa and fitness center. The resort offers an array of classes such as spinning, yoga, Zumba, Pilates, high intensity interval training and, my personal favorite, beach bootcamp.

Col. Bob Weinstein, a.k.a. The Health Colonel, conducts group beach bootcamp classes four times a week at the resort. He incorporates a full-body workout jam-packed into 70-90 minutes of cardio, resistance training, stretching and group exercises like tug-of-war (which, I can tell you from experience, works muscles you didn’t know you had!).

Eat Super Foods

Ana recommends choosing super foods like kale and spinach because these options will keep you feeling energized and healthy throughout your wellness vacation. “Super foods give your body what it needs at the cellular level,” said Ana.

Harbor Beach’s signature restaurant, 3030 Ocean, offers healthy options from locally grown ingredients, and Executive Chef Dean James Max was one of the pioneers of the farm-to-table concept in South Florida. You'll love healthy menu items like John’s Farm Baby Kale & Beet Salad, Poached Cocoa Beach Flounder and Florida Peach & Blueberry Parfait.

Bring Healthy Travel Snacks

Ana also recommends packing healthy travel snacks like fruit and nuts, but she warns to pay attention to portion size – one handful of nuts equals one serving.

“You aren’t going to be lean if you only do cardio. It’s important to also have a balanced diet, and it’s even better if you can add in weight training,” she said.

One of the best parts of vacationing in Florida is, of course, the beach and the fabulous weather! Go for a run on the sand, paddle-board in the Atlantic Ocean, or snorkel and swim along the spectacular offshore reefs.

If you go: Book your wellness getaway at the Harbor Beach Marriott Resort & Spa online or call (954) 525-4000. The resort is located at 3030 Holiday Dr. in Fort Lauderdale and rates start at $270 and up.
