Miami is an international hub, attracting travelers from all over the world and the InterContinental Miami has been a fixture of the downtown skyline for decades.

The hotel recently underwent a $30 million renovation, taking steps to keep pace with Miami’s changing brand – from a sand-and-surf city to one that exudes high style and urban sophistication.

One of the first things you’ll notice are the two exterior, 19-story LED Digital Canvases. They're stunning.

I went to check in at the front desk and was captivated by the giant video screen showing the downtown skyline. The “Front Desk Video Art Wall” is a live camera mounted at the top of the hotel with multiple angle settings that allow it to capture Bayfront Park, Bayside Marina, PortMiami and Biscayne Bay.

General Manager Robert Hill said they're looking to add new live camera locations on the beach and at local attractions.

Each of the hotel’s 641 guest rooms and suites has been completely remodeled. My room was very comfortable and it had sweeping views of downtown, Biscayne Bay and South Beach. I could have stared out the window for hours.

Tennis star Venus Williams redesigned the hotel’s presidential and executive suites, as well as the hotel’s 29th floor Club Lounge.

I asked Hill what new design elements inspired him the most. He said, “I’m inspired by the way we have merged art and technology to transform the guest experience.”

The renovation project marks the first stateside location of Toro Toro by Chef Richard Sandoval.

Toro Toro highlights the flavors of the Americas and the Caribbean. The menu is varied, featuring a selection of small plates, steaks and seafood, entrees served a la carte, and an option of meats carved tableside rodizio-style.

Chef Sandoval decided to open Toro Toro in Miami after its successful launch in Dubai.

“Miami seemed like a natural fit for us since its truly a reflection of the city’s vibrant, multicultural mix,” he said.
