Entertainment and Fashion Collide at Swim Week

By: Kara Franker

It doesn’t get sexier than Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami Beach. Nightlife, models, ocean breezes and fast cars combine to put the sizzle into summer. The world’s most sought after swimwear designers descend on to South Beach for this can’t-miss weeklong, fashion and entertainment extravaganza.

The Raleigh Hotel will host five fabulous days of designer runway shows, presentations and parties. I can’t wait! On my must-see list is designer Nicole Di Rocco’s showcase of her sultry Nicolita Swimwear brand.

I chatted with Nicole about her upcoming trip to Miami Beach for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim:

Being from L.A., what do you love about visiting Miami?

I always feel like I’m on vacation when I go to Miami. I love the sexy Cuban vibe from the community and I enjoy spending time with my family.

Where do you like to dine, stay and play in Miami?

During my trips, I love staying at The Surfcomber Hotel in Miami Beach and lounging at their pool cabanas. I make sure to dine at Versailles because I have to get my authentic Cuban meal while I’m in town. When I want to shop, I can walk right over to Lincoln Road and find a little bit of everything. My absolute favorite hot spot for nightlife is LIV at the Fontainebleau!

When you're traveling on vacation to Florida, what are the three items you must pack?

  1. Nicolita Bikini
  2. Sunscreen
  3. Hair Straightener

Why do you think Miami is a great city to host Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim?

When I think of beach destinations, Miami is one of my Top 5. The exact location of our runway show at The Raleigh Hotel is actually a couple of feet away from the sand, so it’s the perfect setting.

If You Go: This year marks the ninth anniversary of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim on July 18-22, 2013. The official schedule can be seen here: http://miami.mbfashionweek.com/schedule
