There's a special island on the southwest coast of Florida that exudes tropical charm and simple elegance. Not only is Captiva Island a perfect getaway for a vacation, it’s a world-class location for a destination wedding.
I caught up with newlyweds Jason and Candace Todd, who had their dream wedding on Captiva Island. “We looked at several locations and Captiva Island gave us the intimate, small island appeal that we were looking for - including a private beach,” said Jason.
They rented a beautiful, six-bedroom, gulf-front home -- called "Captured" -- from Royal Shell Properties. The 6,500-square-foot, three-story estate has its own private beach, pool and spa and can host an event of up to 75 people.
“We were looking for an opportunity to not only get married and have a ceremony in the same location, but to have a celebration that our small wedding party could enjoy,” said Jason.
Jason and Candace’s guests arrived and walked through a path of thousands of overhead lights and tiki torches that led to the pool. After the ceremony on the beach, the guests enjoyed a catered dinner reception at the home.
“It was everything we hoped for -- intimate, warm, inviting, and heartfelt for everyone. The October weather was perfect,” said Jason.
I asked Jason what made his wedding day so special. “Marrying my best friend for one! We would definitely have to say that the most special part was being able to not only celebrate our union, but be able to share it at an incredibly beautiful island, in a wonderful home with our entire family and closest friends for the whole time that we were there,” he said.
Jason added: “Barb Harrington and the management staff of Royal Shell Vacation Homes were, without a doubt, the most professional and trusting staff that we have ever dealt with. We have traveled and stayed at some really nice places before, but Barb and her staff went way overboard to meet our every needs.”
Insider Tip: The home will accept events with up to 75 people with an additional $3,000 event fee, plus a refundable event damage deposit of $1,000. Contact Barb Harrington with Royal Shell Properties for more info at Barb.firstname.lastname@example.org.
