I strolled down the beach, camera looped around my neck. The sun made diamonds on the impossibly blue water, and the surf tickled my toes, pleasantly cool. I wondered why no one else was out enjoying the perfect day on Mexico Beach. Maybe Florida’s Forgotten Coast was just living up to its name, a paradise that somehow managed to skate under the radar.
And then I spotted him.
He was a giant, toothy beast, over 30 feet long, sprawled on the sand, his spiked tail dragging in the waves. I’d never seen a gator so big, white, and motionless. That explained everything!
I know, it sounds like a fish tale, but I can prove it. Take a glimpse at my video—if you dare.
